Those who approach the sacrament of Penance obtain pardon from God's mercy for the offense committed against him, and are, at the same time, reconciled with the Church which they have wounded by their sins and which by charity, by example, and by prayer labors for their conversion.
~ Catechism of the Catholic Church n.1422
The sacrament of Reconciliation (also known to some as Penance or Confession) is one of the ways in which we experience the fullness of God's mercy.
Prayerful preparationĀ for the sacrament of Reconciliation involves reflection on what we have done wrong, and it helps to use an Examination of Conscience, to do this. Feeling sorrow for what we done leads us to seek God's forgiveness. When we participate in the sacrament of Reconciliation, we grow in holiness as our sins are forgiven by God, through the priest, and we are strengthened by God's grace.
Children
Children in 2nd grade or older, who have not yet participated in the sacrament of Reconciliation, will prepare to do so as part of their preparations for First Eucharist.
Registration in faith formation classes is required for children to receive this sacrament.
Adults needing to prepare for this sacrament should contact the Director of Faith Formation.
